It's That Time of Year, Folks...
A few months back, I blogged about the "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" case and the limits of free speech. A bunch of my readers got very riled up, on both sides of the issue.http://amandabrice.blogspot.com/2007/03/bong-hits-4-jesus-i-must-admit-that.html
Anyway, like the title of this entry says, it's that time of year. It's late June, so it's time for a whole rash of Supreme Court decisions before they go on recess.
Today we got the ruling in this school free speech case, in a split 5-4 decision:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19414576/
Chief Justice Roberts wrote the opinion for the Court, that schools may prohibit student expression that can be interpreted as advocating drug use.
I'm really not suprised at all, looking at precedent on free speech for students cases.
What do you think?
